On Thursday afternoon (April 23), Natuna Deputy Regent Jarmin, S.E., visited the site of a forest fire in the Batu Sisir area. The visit was part of the local government’s swift response to a disaster that has the potential to spread and threaten both the environment and nearby residential areas.
During the inspection, the Deputy Regent directly observed the extent of the burned land and the ongoing firefighting efforts carried out by a joint response team.
He stated that the local government has mobilized multiple agencies, including the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and community volunteers, to accelerate the firefighting process. He also emphasized the importance of cross-agency coordination to ensure an effective response.
In addition, he urged the public not to clear land by burning, especially amid the current hot and dry weather conditions. According to him, forest fires not only damage ecosystems but also pose serious health risks due to the smoke they produce.
Teams on the ground are continuing their efforts to extinguish the fire using available equipment, including water pumps and manual tools. Difficult terrain remains one of the main challenges in the firefighting process, requiring perseverance and strong coordination from all personnel involved.
The Deputy Regent also assured that the local government will continue to monitor the situation closely and is prepared to take additional measures if necessary, including deploying more personnel and equipment.
He expressed his appreciation for the hard work of all teams involved in handling the fire and hopes that it can be fully contained soon, preventing further impact on the community and the environment in Natuna. (Prokopim Natuna)
