Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan handed over social assistance to elderly residents and families living in extreme poverty on Friday (September 18), emphasizing that the program reflects the government’s commitment to being present for people who need additional support. The assistance was symbolically distributed at the Ranai Post Office as part of the second phase of the 2026 program.
Recipients aged over 60 and families classified as extremely poor each receive IDR 1.2 million, distributed once every six months. Cen said the assistance is intended to help recipients meet their basic needs while providing support during challenging circumstances.
She stressed that the program should not create long-term dependence, but rather serve as a tangible expression of the state’s responsibility toward its citizens. At the same time, she encouraged people to continue developing their own skills and making use of their abilities and available opportunities to gradually strengthen their economic independence and human resources.
“Government assistance is a form of care, but the hope is that people can continue to move forward independently,” Cen said. The distribution was attended by relevant regional officials, district and village authorities, and beneficiaries from across Bunguran Timur. (Pro_Kopim Natuna/D)
