Hundreds of residents gathered enthusiastically at an affordable market organized by the Natuna Regency Government at Pantai Piwang, East Bunguran District, on Saturday (October 24). Despite the rain, people continued to arrive to purchase essential goods at more affordable prices.
Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan visited the site to observe the market’s implementation firsthand, check the availability of various food commodities, and see how residents were making use of the initiative. The activity was part of the celebrations marking Natuna Regency’s 27th anniversary and was also held in conjunction with World Food Day.
During her visit, Cen Sui Lan told members of the media that the affordable market was one of the local government’s efforts to help residents obtain essential goods at more accessible prices.
She hoped the initiative would reflect the local government’s commitment to being present for the community, particularly in helping residents meet their daily food needs while maintaining price stability and ensuring the availability of food supplies.
Meanwhile, Head of the Natuna Regency Agriculture and Industry Office Wan Sazali explained that the local government had prepared a range of food commodities for the event. These included cooking oil, rice supplied through the Food Supply and Price Stabilization Program (SPHP), shallots, garlic, potatoes, carrots, eggs, and granulated sugar.
The available supplies included 12 units of cooking oil, each with a capacity of 200 liters; two tonnes of SPHP rice; 60 kilograms each of shallots and garlic; 84 kilograms of potatoes; five boxes of carrots; and 500 trays of chicken eggs, along with granulated sugar.
Wan Sazali added that providing these commodities was part of the local government’s efforts to make essential food supplies more accessible and affordable for residents.
Alongside the affordable market, the government also distributed food assistance in the form of rice to 210 households, with each recipient receiving 10 kilograms.
Public enthusiasm remained high throughout the event. Even as heavy rain fell over Pantai Piwang, residents continued to come and purchase essential goods at affordable prices.
Also attending the event were heads of several regional government agencies, subdistrict and village officials from across East Bunguran District, and members of the local community. (Pro_kopimnatuna/S)
