Natuna Regional Secretary Opens Technical Training for Village Consultative Council Members, Calls for Better Governance and Oversight

The Village Consultative Council (BPD) plays an important role not only in overseeing village governance but also in serving as a bridge between the community and the village government.

To carry out these responsibilities effectively, BPD members and village heads need to maintain harmonious working relationships, respect each other’s authority, and communicate openly.

Natuna Regional Secretary Boy Wijanarko Varianto highlighted these points in his remarks while officially opening a technical guidance program for BPD members from across Natuna Regency. Held under the theme “Strengthen Oversight and Foster Unity for Better Villages,” the program aims to improve the capacity of BPD members in carrying out their duties.

The event took place at Sisi Basisir Restaurant in Ranai on Monday morning (October 26). Also in attendance were the Head of the Natuna Regency Community and Village Empowerment Office, the Chair of the Natuna branch of the Association of Indonesian Village Consultative Council Members (ABPEDNAS), the Chair of the Natuna branch of the Association of Indonesian Village Governments (APDESI), subdistrict heads from across Natuna, and program participants.

In his remarks, Boy emphasized the importance of the training in strengthening BPD members’ knowledge and capacity to carry out their roles and responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

He hoped the training would lead to tangible improvements in the way BPD members perform their duties, particularly in strengthening oversight, drafting village regulations, conveying community aspirations, and building productive working relationships with village heads.

Meanwhile, Chair of the Natuna Regency Association of Indonesian Village Consultative Council Members (PABPDSI), Tarmizi, explained that over the past two years, the central government had instructed PABPDSI not to organize activities at the regional level due to the lack of available funding.

However, recognizing the importance of maintaining coordination and strengthening relationships among BPD members, the association agreed to organize the training. The initiative is intended to improve members’ competencies and understanding of their main duties and functions in their respective working areas.

The program is a collaborative effort involving the Natuna Regency Community and Village Empowerment Office (DPMD), PABPDSI Natuna, and village governments across the regency. It is scheduled to run from October 26 to 28, 2026. (Pro-kopimnatuna/Dn)
