Ninety-eight years ago, Indonesian youth made a pledge that brought people together despite their differences, strengthened their struggle, and united their determination to stand as one Indonesian nation. Today, that spirit must continue to live on, not only in our memories but also in the character of every new generation.
Building a developed Indonesia is not only about tall buildings, advanced technology, or great wealth. It begins with people of good character, hearts that love their country, the courage to keep going through difficult times, and care for others.
This message was delivered by Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan, who read a written speech from the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia, Erick Thohir, during the ceremony to mark the 98th Youth Pledge Day in 2026. Cen Sui Lan led the ceremony as the chief inspector at Pantai Piwang, Batu Hitam Village, Ranai, on Wednesday morning (28 October).
The speech also highlighted the government’s responsibility to help build a future generation that is patriotic, determined, and caring. Young people should show their love for Indonesia not only through words but also through service and real action. They should remain strong when facing difficulties, learn from failure, and continue to do their best for the nation.
Being caring also means looking beyond personal success and understanding the difficulties faced by others. Young people should not turn away when people need help. Patriotism without care loses its meaning, determination without a conscience loses its direction, and progress without humanity is not true progress.
The Minister also called on all Indonesian youth to keep working hard and become strong individuals without losing their kindness. They should have the courage to lead and the willingness to serve, standing firm for their country while reaching out to help others. Every piece of knowledge, every achievement, and every sacrifice should be a way to show love for Indonesia.
The ceremony was attended by the Regional Secretary of Natuna Regency, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), regional assistants, heads of regional government agencies, youth leaders, education figures, community leaders, and other participants. (Pro-Kopim (D)
