Natuna is continuing to improve its agriculture and plantation sector by working with government agencies to bring more support and programs to local farmers. One of these efforts has resulted in assistance from the Medan Center for Seed and Plantation Protection (BBPPTP Medan) through a 2026 coconut farming program.
The program was introduced at Sri Serindit Multipurpose Hall in Ranai on Saturday, August 22. The event was attended by Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan, Deputy Regent Jarmin, SE, the BBPPTP Medan team, local agriculture officials, several subdistrict and village heads, agricultural extension officers, and farmers who received the assistance.
Speaking at the event, Cen Sui Lan thanked the central government, especially BBPPTP Medan, for bringing the 2026 program to Natuna. The assistance will benefit 497 farmers from 34 farmer groups, covering around 350 hectares in six subdistricts: Bunguran Timur, Bunguran Timur Laut, Bunguran Tengah, Bunguran Selatan, Bunguran Utara, and Batubi.
She encouraged the farmers to make full use of the program and the knowledge provided during the training. The program covers practical aspects of coconut farming, including land preparation, proper planting-hole size and depth, planting distance, fertilizer management, and labor costs. These practices are expected to help coconut trees grow better, produce fruit sooner, and become more resistant to pests.
Cen Sui Lan also reminded farmers to use the assistance for its intended purpose and not sell or transfer the fertilizer. She asked the Natuna Agriculture and Food Security Office and agricultural extension officers to continue supporting the farmers in the field and help address any technical problems during planting and maintenance.
