Natuna Deputy Regent Jarmin officially opened an inter-district gasing tournament on Saturday morning (October 10) at Tugu Gading Arena as part of the celebrations marking Natuna Regency’s 27th anniversary in 2026.
Jarmin expressed his appreciation to the Natuna Gasing Enthusiasts Group, the organizing committee, district heads, and everyone involved in making the event possible.
He emphasized that the traditional spinning-top game is more than a sporting competition. It is an important part of Malay cultural heritage that has been passed down through generations and deserves to be preserved.
Gasing also embodies values such as agility, precision, patience, discipline, sportsmanship, and togetherness. Jarmin said the tournament offered an opportunity to keep the tradition alive and introduce it to younger generations.
He added that Natuna’s anniversary provides an opportunity to strengthen community bonds, promote unity, and deepen residents’ pride in their region. He hoped the tournament would bring participants from different districts closer together while allowing them to showcase their skills in a spirit of friendly competition.
The event is expected to support the preservation of local cultural traditions and encourage younger generations to appreciate traditional games amid changing times.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Speaker II of the Natuna Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), representatives of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), heads of relevant regional government agencies, district and urban ward officials, the organizing committee, and participants from several districts across Natuna (Prokopim/S)
