Natuna Deputy Regent Jarmin sent off a research team and students from the Natuna Islamic Institute (Institut Agama Islam Natuna) participating in an international community service program in Malaysia. The send-off ceremony took place at the Natuna Regent’s Office on Friday morning (October 9).
Jarmin was accompanied by Natuna Education and Culture Department Head Ilham Kauli. Also attending were the institute’s rector, Dr. Umar Natuna, members of the research team, academic staff, and participating students.
In his remarks, Jarmin commended the institute for expanding opportunities in education, research, and community service through international engagement. He described the program as an opportunity for participants to broaden their academic perspectives, exchange knowledge and cultural experiences, and introduce Natuna to the international community.
He encouraged the students to make the most of their time in Malaysia, remain disciplined, and represent Natuna with courtesy, warmth, and a strong sense of community. He also expressed hope that the knowledge and experience they gain would contribute to the region’s future development.
Jarmin reaffirmed the Natuna Regency Government’s commitment to improving human resource quality through support for educational cooperation and academic development at both national and international levels.
Meanwhile, Dr. Umar Natuna said the academic visit would take place from October 10 to 20, 2026, covering Johor, Melaka, and Terengganu, Malaysia. The program includes research, community service, faculty and student exchanges, international seminars, and teaching opportunities at partner universities.
The initiative follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) established the previous year during the institute’s graduation ceremony, marking a step forward in its efforts to expand academic networks and enhance educational quality.
Nine students will participate in the international community service program, representing their institution while sharing Natuna’s cultural heritage, local potential, and community values with their Malaysian counterparts.
The program is expected to broaden the students’ academic and cultural experiences while supporting closer educational ties between Indonesia and Malaysia and creating new opportunities for human resource development in Natuna. (Pro_Kopim/S)
