Natuna Deputy Regent Jarmin, SE attended the symbolic presentation of death benefits by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (Workers’ Social Security Agency) as part of the 2026 National Customer Day commemoration. The event was held at the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Ranai Natuna Branch Office on Jl. Datok Kaya Wan Muhammad Benteng, East Bunguran District, Friday (September 4), and was attended by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan officials and staff, as well as the beneficiaries’ heirs.
In his remarks, Jarmin praised BPJS Ketenagakerjaan for its services and expressed hope that its coverage could be expanded to reach more workers and sectors of the community in Natuna. He encouraged the agency to step up public outreach and engage businesses and employers to increase worker participation in the program. To the families receiving the benefits, Jarmin urged them to make good use of the assistance and see it as a form of social protection that reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding workers and their families.
Meanwhile, Head of the Natuna BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Branch Hendra Herry Jonna thanked the local government for issuing a circular urging businesses operating in Natuna to report their operations and register their workers with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. He explained that the program is designed to broaden social protection for workers, particularly in the event of workplace accidents or other work-related risks.
Hendra said BPJS Ketenagakerjaan would continue improving the benefits provided to workers’ families as part of its efforts to support their welfare. The agency currently has around 11,000 registered participants in Natuna, while an estimated 18,000 potential participants from various businesses operating in the regency have yet to be registered. He encouraged workers who are not yet covered to enroll so they can receive social security protection and services more effectively.
At the government level, 4,500 public-sector employees—including civil servants, PPPK employees, and part-time government workers—have been registered with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan by the regional government at both provincial and regency/city levels across the Riau Islands Province. Hendra also said that compensation for residents and fishermen who recently died or were involved in accidents would be processed and disbursed as soon as possible, provided the required documents, including identity cards, death certificates, and other administrative requirements, are complete.
