Held in the meeting room of the Natuna Regent’s Office on Monday morning (April 6), the Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, accompanied by the Regional Secretary, several heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), village heads, and community leaders, welcomed a delegation from the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Kemen-PPN/Bappenas).
The visit focused on coordination efforts for the development of natural resource potential, as well as an evaluation of the Natuna Geopark and its advancement toward achieving UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp) status.
During the meeting, Cen Sui Lan expressed her appreciation for the visit and the opportunity for coordination. She emphasized that the meeting serves as an important platform for the regional government to present various challenges faced in developing Natuna, particularly as one of Indonesia’s outermost and border regions.
According to her, one of the most significant obstacles to regional development is the limited transportation infrastructure—both maritime and air—particularly in terms of fleet availability and the high cost of transporting people and goods.
Through this meeting, she hoped that Kemen-PPN/Bappenas could help bridge communication with relevant ministries to secure program support and interventions. Such support, she noted, is needed not only for geopark development but also to address broader development challenges currently faced by the region.
She further added that improving accessibility and reducing transportation costs for both passengers and goods would enable Natuna Regency to better promote its integrated sectors tied to the geopark status, which is currently being actively pursued.
