Inspecting Sebayar Landfill, Deputy Regent of Natuna Hopes Waste Management Will Protect the Environment, Create Economic Value, and Support the Agricultural Sector

On Tuesday afternoon (23/12), the Deputy Regent of Natuna, Jarmin, accompanied by the Head of the Natuna Regency Environmental Agency, Ferizaldi, conducted a direct inspection of the Sebayar Final Disposal Site (TPA) in East Bunguran District, which serves as the main waste disposal and management facility, particularly for Bunguran Island.

During the visit, Jarmin reviewed various facilities at the site, including waste storage areas and supporting infrastructure, and held discussions with field officers and landfill management personnel.

Jarmin emphasized the importance of giving serious attention to the capacity of the Sebayar landfill. According to him, population growth will inevitably lead to an increase in the volume of waste generated, making it essential to continuously evaluate the landfill’s capacity.

Looking ahead, Jarmin expressed his hope that waste management would not focus solely on disposal, but also on long-term planning, so that waste-related issues do not become an environmental burden that leads to ecological degradation.

Addressing the Environmental Agency as the technical institution responsible for waste management and environmental impacts, Jarmin called for appropriate solutions—particularly in managing plastic waste, which is difficult to decompose—by encouraging recycling into products with economic value.

In addition to plastic waste, Jarmin also highlighted the potential of managing organic waste, noting that it could be processed into organic fertilizer to support the agricultural sector.

Through integrated and sustainable waste management, Jarmin hopes that waste-related challenges in Natuna Regency can be handled more effectively, while simultaneously delivering environmental and economic benefits to the community. (Prokopim/Patli)
