Regent of Natuna Promotes Food Self-Sufficiency, Inspects Poultry Farm and Rice Fields on Midai Island

On Tuesday afternoon (25/11), concluding the series of working visits in Midai and Suak Midai, Regent of Natuna Cen Sui Lan conducted a direct inspection of several ongoing food security programs on Midai Island. The visit reaffirmed the regional government’s commitment to strengthening the local food sector and improving the welfare of rural communities.

The first agenda was a visit to the broiler chicken farm located in Sebelat Village, Midai District. The farm, managed by the village-owned enterprise (BUMDes) Sinar Harapan, has become one of the emerging economic drivers for the local community. Regent Cen Sui Lan praised the hard work of the BUMDes management for their ability to operate the poultry business professionally and sustainably.

According to the Regent, the success of Sinar Harapan demonstrates that villages possess strong potential to be self-reliant in food production. She emphasized that the utilization of local resources must continue to be strengthened to ensure that community needs can be met without relying heavily on supplies from outside the island.

In the long term, Regent Cen Sui Lan encourages all BUMDes across Natuna—including those on Midai Island—to take part in supplying food products to the MBG community kitchens. This initiative is expected to strengthen the local food supply chain while stimulating more productive village enterprises.

Following the inspection of the poultry farm, the Regent continued her visit to the rice fields, which play a crucial role in enhancing food self-sufficiency in Midai. The fields, managed by local farmer groups, have shown promising potential in supporting the community’s rice needs.

During her dialogue with farmers, she received various inputs regarding land expansion and the need for better agricultural facilities. The Regent affirmed that the regional government will promptly follow up on these needs through equipment assistance programs and improvements to supporting infrastructure.

This visit highlights the Natuna Regency Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the food sector in island regions. Through the optimization of local livestock and agricultural development, Regent Cen Sui Lan hopes that Midai Island can achieve food self-sufficiency while simultaneously promoting sustainable economic growth for its communities.
