Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan officially opened the School Orientation Program (MPLS) for the 2026–2027 academic year at Natuna People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat) on Thursday morning (August 6). The event was held at the school’s dormitory hall at the Natuna Hajj Dormitory complex.
Sekolah Rakyat is part of a national education program designed to provide quality education opportunities, particularly for children from low-income families who are at risk of dropping out of school.
Cen Sui Lan said the Natuna Regency Government will continue to support the program by improving educational facilities and infrastructure. The support is aimed at strengthening human resources and giving children in Natuna better opportunities to receive a proper education.
The event was attended by Deputy Regent Jarmin, the Chair of the Natuna Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), the Regional Secretary, heads of regional government agencies, district and village officials, school principals, teachers, school staff, parents, and students.
Cen Sui Lan encouraged teachers and education staff to make Sekolah Rakyat a second home where students can learn, develop their skills and character, and grow in a caring and supportive environment. She also stressed that both the orientation program and learning activities should be child-friendly, safe, enjoyable, and free from bullying and violence.
She thanked parents and guardians for trusting Sekolah Rakyat with their children’s education. According to Cen Sui Lan, quality education requires close cooperation between schools, families, and the government. This cooperation is expected to help develop a generation of Natuna youth who are educated, healthy, creative, responsible, and ready to face the future.
A total of 89 students have enrolled in Sekolah Rakyat Natuna for the 2026–2027 academic year, consisting of 29 elementary school students, 30 junior high school students, and 30 senior high school students.
The students come from low-income and extremely poor families across Natuna’s districts, with many considered at risk of dropping out. Their selection was based on data collection and field verification conducted by the Natuna Social Affairs Office. (Pro_kopimnatuna/S)
