Natuna Regent Attends Energy Conversion Facility Inauguration with National Development Planning Minister in Batam

Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan attended the inauguration of PT McDermott Indonesia’s Cakrawala and Nusantara buildings in Batam on Thursday (28/05/2026). The ceremony was also attended by Minister of National Development Planning (PPN) and Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy, regional government officials, and key stakeholders from Indonesia’s energy and industrial sectors.

The new facilities form part of PT McDermott Indonesia’s expansion to support the TenneT 2GW HVDC Project, a major initiative focused on converting wind energy into electricity. The project is seen as an important milestone in advancing renewable energy development and strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global sustainable energy industry.

During the event, Regent Cen Sui Lan welcomed the commitment shown by both the government and industry in promoting sustainable energy projects that can attract investment and generate new employment opportunities.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, she also highlighted Natuna’s development priorities directly to Minister Rachmat Pambudy, calling for greater support from Bappenas to accelerate development in the regency. Her proposals focused on infrastructure improvement, regional connectivity, maritime economic development, and energy resilience in border areas.

Cen Sui Lan emphasized Natuna’s strategic role as one of Indonesia’s outermost regions, sharing maritime boundaries with neighboring countries. She expressed hope that national development programs would continue to prioritize border regions, enabling Natuna to maximize the potential of its marine resources, fisheries, tourism sector, and energy assets.

According to the Regent, stronger collaboration between the central government, regional administrations, and the private sector is essential to achieving more balanced development and improving the welfare of communities in island and border regions.

The inauguration marked an important step in strengthening cooperation between government and industry while supporting Indonesia’s transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy future. Prokopim/Natuna
