The Natuna Regency Government held a candlelight remembrance ceremony at the Natuna Heroes Cemetery on Monday evening, August 17, as part of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day celebrations. The ceremony was held to honor the heroes who gave their lives in the struggle for Indonesia’s independence and in defending the country.
The ceremony was led by the Chair of the Natuna DPRD and attended by Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan, Deputy Regent Jarmin, the Regional Secretary, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), representatives of central government agencies, and heads of local government offices.
The atmosphere became quiet and solemn as participants paid tribute to the fallen heroes. The ceremony included the reading of the remembrance pledge, the turning off of the lights, and the lighting of torches, followed by a moment of silence. A wreath was also laid at the cemetery, followed by a prayer led by a representative of the Natuna Ministry of Religious Affairs Office.
The ceremony was more than a part of the Independence Day program. It was also a reminder of the sacrifices that made Indonesia’s independence possible. The Natuna Regency Government hopes the courage, unity, and spirit of service shown by the nation’s heroes will continue to inspire younger generations to contribute to their communities and take part in building a better Natuna and Indonesia.
