Natuna, June 29 — Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan expressed gratitude following the official designation of Natuna Geopark as an Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp) 2026, as announced in the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Letter No. T-12031/D.07/PP.06.02/06/2026 dated June 29, 2026, regarding the selection results for Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark candidates.
According to the Regent, the designation marks a significant milestone in Natuna Geopark’s journey toward becoming part of the prestigious UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.
The achievement reflects Natuna’s outstanding geological heritage, rich biodiversity, and unique cultural assets, while also recognizing that the geopark has met key standards for conservation-based management and sustainable development.
The Regent emphasized that this accomplishment is not the finish line, but rather the beginning of a greater responsibility. The Natuna Regency Government remains committed to strengthening the management and governance of Natuna Geopark to meet all UNESCO requirements while positioning it as a driving force for sustainable regional development.
She also extended her appreciation to the Central Government, the Riau Islands Provincial Government, the Natuna Geopark Management Agency, academics, local communities, business stakeholders, the media, and the people of Natuna for their valuable contributions throughout the geopark’s development process. She noted that this achievement is the result of strong collaboration, shared commitment, and the spirit of mutual cooperation among all stakeholders.
In closing, the Regent encouraged all members of the community and relevant stakeholders to continue working together to protect, preserve, and further develop Natuna Geopark.
She expressed confidence that, with continued commitment and collective support, Natuna will ultimately earn full recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark, further strengthening its position as a world-class geotourism destination and creating greater opportunities to improve the welfare of the local community.
