On Wednesday afternoon (10/06), the Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, held a coordination meeting with the Commander of the Maritime Combat Group (Danguspurla), the Commander of the Ranai Naval Base (Danlanal), and several related agencies. The meeting took place in the 2nd Floor Meeting Room of the Natuna Regent’s Office on Jalan Batu Sisir Bukit Arai.
The gathering served as a strategic forum to address critical issues faced by local fishermen, specifically regarding maritime safety, territorial waters security, and meeting the fuel demands of the fisheries sector.
This coordination meeting highlights the Natuna Regency Government’s commitment to championing fishermen’s rights while strengthening protection for fishing activities in the North Natuna Sea. Because these waters border international territory, they hold immense strategic value, requiring strong synergy among the local government, regional security forces, local fishermen, and fisheries businesses.
During the meeting, Cen Sui Lan opened the floor for a direct dialogue with the fishermen to hear their aspirations and firsthand challenges. The constructive discussion focused on understanding maritime boundaries, ensuring navigation safety, and implementing preventive measures to reduce the risk of accidents or violations at sea.
The fishermen emphasized the need for better education on maritime boundaries and clearer coordination mechanisms with maritime security forces. They noted that a solid understanding of their fishing zones is essential for maintaining safety and ensuring the sustainability of fishing operations in border areas.
Beyond safety, the meeting also mapped out reporting protocols for when fishermen spot or encounter Foreign Fishing Vessels (KIA) in Natuna waters. The discussion centered on a communication and reporting system that allows information from fishermen to reach the Navy and Guspurla instantly for immediate action according to standard procedures.
To ensure these reports are effective, attendees stressed the importance of providing adequate communication equipment. This would allow real-time information sharing from the field, especially in situations requiring a rapid response from authorities.
At the same meeting, Cen Sui Lan also held talks with Pertamina Patra Niaga to discuss subsidized fuel (BBM) quotas for fishermen. This effort aims to guarantee energy availability for the fisheries sector, which is a backbone of the economy for Natuna’s coastal communities.
Several fuel distribution issues were also brought to light. Among them was the implementation of the “One Price Fuel” (BBM Satu Harga) program on Laut Island, where retail price discrepancies are still being found on the ground.
This situation serves as a collective evaluation point to ensure the program’s goalβbringing equitable energy access to island communitiesβis fully realized.
Additionally, the agenda included a proposal to relocate the Selat Lampa gas station (SPBU) to improve service access for residents in the Pulau Tiga and West Pulau Tiga districts. Through this cross-sector coordination, the Regent of Natuna hopes to find comprehensive solutions to the challenges faced by local fishermen, ensuring that fishing activities in the North Natuna Sea remain safe, productive, and sustainable.
The meeting was attended by the Regional Secretary, Vice Chairman II of the Natuna Regency DPRD, the Commander of Ranai Naval Base, Bakamla (Maritime Security Agency), the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), representatives from PT. Pertamina, district heads (Camat), and fishermen’s representatives from across Natuna Regency. (Pro_kopimnatuna/D&S)
