The development of a seaport has become one of the strategic priorities for Natuna Regency, considering its position as a border region with strong potential in the maritime, fisheries, and trade sectors.
A proper port facility is expected to improve connectivity, support the flow of goods and services, and encourage sustainable regional economic growth.
This was conveyed by Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan during her opening remarks at the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for the Pre-Feasibility Study of Seaport Development in Natuna Regency, Riau Islands Province, held at the Natuna Regent’s Office meeting room on Jalan Batu Sisir, Bukit Arai, Monday morning (May 4).
Joining the Regent at the event were Natuna Vice Regent, the Regional Secretary, several heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), and subdistrict heads.
The discussion was also attended virtually by several officials, including the Secretary of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Lollan Panjaitan, the Head of the Terempa Port Management Unit (KUPP), the Head of the Class I Navigation District of Tanjung Pinang, and representatives from other related vertical agencies.
During the forum, Cen Sui Lan expressed her appreciation to all parties involved in supporting the event, especially the Directorate General of Sea Transportation under the Ministry of Transportation, along with provincial and regional government institutions and other stakeholders contributing to regional development efforts.
She also encouraged all parties to actively support the process, whether through ideas, policy support, or technical assistance, especially in helping provide the data and information needed for the pre-feasibility study.
According to her, this is particularly important considering the vital role a seaport would play in supporting regional development and meeting the needs of coastal communities.
She expressed hope that the port development project could move forward and be realized as soon as possible.
