The Regency Government of Natuna welcomed an official visit and audience with the Head of the Facilities and Infrastructure Bureau of the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla RI) at the Regent’s Office, as an initial step toward building strategic synergy to strengthen maritime security in Natuna waters. The meeting took place on Thursday morning (July 17).
During the meeting, Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, discussed various aspects of enhancing surveillance and security in the Natuna sea territory, which directly borders international waters and is vulnerable to illegal activities such as illegal fishing and territorial violations.
Regent Cen Sui Lan expressed full support for Bakamla RI’s initiative. She emphasized that the Natuna Regency Government is ready to collaborate and facilitate the enhancement of the maritime surveillance system, including providing administrative and technical support.
She also invited Bakamla to synergize in strengthening Indonesia’s border areas. The regional government is prepared to serve as a strategic partner in ensuring the security of maritime zones that form the frontline of the Republic of Indonesia’s sovereignty.
First Admiral Agung Setiawan, M.Han., stated that the visit was part of efforts to accelerate the plan for strengthening maritime security facilities and infrastructure in border areas. He underscored the importance of collaboration with regional governments to ensure that national strategic programs can be effectively implemented on the ground.
He further emphasized Natuna’s strategic role as a key region in maintaining Indonesia’s maritime sovereignty and security. Cooperation with local governments is essential to enhance early detection and rapid response to potential threats at sea.
The Natuna Regional Government hopes this audience marks the first step of a joint commitment to strengthening maritime security systems in Natuna through an integrated approach between central and regional authorities (Prokopim/Patli)
