The Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, continues to demonstrate her commitment to accelerating the development of strategic regional transmigration areas through national strategic programs. This commitment was conveyed during her meeting with the Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration (PDTT) on the sidelines of the Indonesia Cosmetic Ingredients event held at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Thursday morning (June 12).
During the meeting, Cen Sui Lan had the opportunity to present the potential of transmigration areas in Natuna, particularly in supporting food security, developing the fisheries sector, and integrating new settlements with supporting infrastructure.
According to Cen Sui Lan, Natuna’s strategic location at Indonesia’s northern border makes it a region of vital importance for both national defense and economic development.
In the discussion, she expressed hope that the central government would provide full support for the development of transmigration areas as part of a broader strategy to ensure equitable development across border regions.
Minister of PDTT, Yandri Susanto, welcomed the initiative and stated that Natuna is one of the regions prioritized for the development of transmigration areas based on local potential.
Yandri also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing technical assistance, strengthening basic infrastructure, and enhancing human resource capacity in transmigration areas.
According to Yandri, strategic transmigration areas must evolve into new, integrated, and sustainable growth centers. Natuna holds immense potential, and realizing this vision requires strong synergy between the central and regional governments with aligned visions and missions.
The meeting is expected to be the starting point for cross-sectoral coordination between local and central governments to formulate policies that support the development of strategic transmigration areas, while also addressing the challenges of development in 3T regions (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas).
The Natuna Regency Government aims, with the support of relevant ministries, for the future transmigration program to not only alleviate population pressure in origin areas but also serve as a vital instrument in strengthening sustainable and competitive development in border regions.
