At the office of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), located on the 35th floor of Wisma Mulia Building, Jakarta, the Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, held an audience with the Deputy Head of SKK Migas on Thursday morning (June 12). The meeting focused on planning the development of regional areas to support oil and gas exploration activities in the Natuna Block.
This meeting is part of a strategic effort to ensure alignment between regional government programs and national agendas in harnessing the oil and gas potential of this border region.
In her remarks, Cen Sui Lan emphasized that oil and gas exploration in the Natuna Block represents a major opportunity for regional development. However, she noted that it must be pursued using a participatory approach to ensure that the benefits are felt directly by the people of Natuna.
This was confirmed by SKK Migas Deputy for Business Support, Eka Bhayu Setta, who stated that the Natuna Block holds significant energy reserves and plays a critical role in national energy security.
Therefore, support from local governments—especially in developing supporting industrial zones and enhancing the capacity of the local workforce—is essential.
The audience also addressed several short-term plans, including the construction of access roads to exploration points, improvements to logistics ports, and the provision of vocational training facilities in the oil and gas sector.
Through this meeting, it is hoped that synergy between the central government, regional authorities, and the private sector can be fostered to support the sustainable development of the oil and gas sector and establish Natuna as one of the strategic energy hubs in western Indonesia.
The audience also served as part of efforts to promote transparency and public accountability in the strategic policymaking process, particularly in sectors that have a significant impact on the economy and the environment of local communities.
