Deputy Regent of Natuna Attends P4GN Declaration in Riau Islands Province

Held at Engku Putri Square in Batam, Deputy Regent of Natuna, Jarmin, attended the Declaration of the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) of the Riau Islands Province. The event was held in conjunction with the destruction of 2 tons of methamphetamine, which had been smuggled via the Riau Islands waters using the Sea Dragon Tarawa vessel, on Thursday morning (June 12).

The event was led directly by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan. Among the attendees were the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia, Police Commissioner General Marthinus Hukom, the Presidential Chief of Staff, several members of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), high-ranking officials from the TNI, the National Police, and the Attorney General’s Office, as well as all regional heads from across the Riau Islands Province.

Of the total 2 tons of evidence, several kilograms of methamphetamine were destroyed symbolically at the event location, while the rest was destroyed at the Hazardous Waste Processing Facility (B3) of PT. Desa Air Cargo, located in Kabil, Nongsa – Batam.

In addition to the symbolic destruction of narcotics — which was part of the National Anti-Drug Public Festivity — a fun walk was also held, attended by thousands of residents from various parts of Batam City.

In his address, Coordinating Minister Budi Gunawan stated that the public witnessing of the drug destruction process should serve as a symbol and shared commitment that the war on drugs is a collective responsibility of all elements of the nation, particularly in the Riau Islands Province.

Deputy Regent of Natuna, Jarmin, also conveyed a similar message during the event. He emphasized that his presence reflects the local government’s commitment to supporting the prevention and eradication of drug abuse and trafficking, especially in the border area of Natuna Regency.

To reinforce this support and firm stance against narcotics in the region, Jarmin expressed his intention to collaborate with various relevant agencies through enhanced security strategies. Additionally, he plans to initiate outreach programs for school-aged children to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
