The Vice Regent of Natuna Attends the Socialisation of Geopark Natuna Goes to School

The Natuna Geopark Team held the Geopark Natuna Goes to School programme in the Language Laboratory Room of SMA Negeri 1 Bunguran Timur, Jalan Pramuka, Ranai, on Friday (27/09) morning.

The activity was attended by several heads of related Regional Apparatus Organisations, the Principal and teachers as well as class XII students of SMA Negeri 1 Ranai.

The Vice Regent of Natuna, Rodhial Huda, was present on the occasion, and in his speech explained that the younger generation must continue to broaden their horizons and treasures.

According to Rodhial, the Geosite (rock conditions) in Natuna Regency is estimated to be over 100 million years old, much older than the rocks on Java Island.

The existence of these rocks must continue to be preserved, and should not be destroyed for any reason or interest, because this is a treasure of natural resources given by God to the people of Natuna.

With the existence of the Geosite, the development of the tourism sector should be built exclusively to attract visitors who want to enjoy the nuances of nature in Natuna.

These various tourism activities should become employment opportunities that are expected to support the improvement of the community's economy in particular.

Furthermore, Rodhial also explained that the development of the tourism sector should apply the principles of preservation, where the potential that is processed must be aligned with conservation, preservation and rehabilitation programmes, not a consumable programme where the adverse effects of the development cause natural damage.

On the same occasion, Hardinansyah as Vice Chairman of the Natuna Regency Geopark said that Natuna Regency Geographically has an area of 264,198.37 square kilometres, where 99.25% of the area is ocean.

It has 154 islands, with 27 inhabited islands and 127 uninhabited islands. Natuna has marine potential in the fisheries sector, while Tourism Potential, so far 120 tourist attraction destinations have been determined. The composition of regional tourist destinations is 84% marine tourism.

Hardinansyah explained, that several years ago Natuna Regency was designated as one of the National Geopark Parks. Natuna has a Geosite Area, which is a diversity of rocks whose age is 188 million years ago, which is located on Akar Island and Setanau Island.

As for biodiversity, Natuna has an endemic animal not found in other areas, namely Kekah, which until now has been preserved to prevent extinction.

The main purpose of the Geopark Natuna Goes to School programme is to introduce various Geopark supporting programmes. In addition, he also plans to facilitate students to visit several geopark geosite conservation points, to introduce the types of geosite rocks, and to introduce the diversity of flora and fauna found in these locations.

Hardinansyah continued that the Geopark status held by Natuna allows the local government and various related elements to prepare tourist destinations.

In addition, the National Geopark Status also provides opportunities for community empowerment, which in turn is expected to increase local revenue and improve the community's economy. (Pro_kopim/Endang)
