The Vice Regent of Natuna Attends a Dialogue between Religious Leaders: Education for Early Marriage Brides, Positive Impact on Preventing Stunting

The Vice Regent of Natuna, Rodhial Huda, attended the Religious Leaders Dialogue "In the Context of Reducing Stunting and Strengthening Religious Moderation in Natuna Regency", held at the Hall of the Ministry of Religion Office, Bunguran Timur District, Tuesday (26/09) morning.

Also present at the event were the Assistant for Governance of Natuna Regency, Chairman of LAM, Chairman of MUI, Ulama Leaders in Natuna Regency and religious leaders.

In his speech, Rodhial Huda said the cause of stunting if analysed starts and often occurs in offspring from early marriage families. This may be due to the limited knowledge and mental readiness of the family couple regarding health.

Regarding mental readiness and knowledge in building a household, the existence and role of religious leaders and community leaders are considered very important, especially to educate prospective brides, so that later after starting a family, they will be better prepared with a more mature mentality.

Rodhial also explained that stunting is also caused by poor health behaviours, as well as knowledge of the importance of nutritious food intake for pregnant women and nursing mothers.

In response to this, the Regional Government has made the issue of stunting one of the priorities that must get focused intervention, with the target that by 2024 the percentage of stunting in Natuna must be reduced to 12%.

He acknowledged that to achieve this target, not only the Health team must take care of efforts to reduce the stunting rate, but all elements, including community leaders must also be involved in the aspect of educating the community, especially prospective brides who plan to marry at an early age.
