The Regent of Natuna represented by The Regional Secretariat Assistant 1 of Natuna Regency, Khaidir, SE, attended the 2023 Special Coordination Meeting for Forest and Land Fire Management (Karhutla) organized by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, on Friday noon (20/01) at the 2nd Floor Meeting Room of the Natuna Regent's Office, Batu Sisir St. Bukit Arai, Ranai.
All Regional Heads from Indonesia's provinces, districts, and cities participated in the activity. Meanwhile, several Heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations from the Natuna Regency, Firechief, Head of BPBD, Dandim 0318/Natuna, Kapolres Natuna and KPHP Unit V Natuna also attended the occasion.
In his speech, The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Mahfud MD, stated that supporting equipment and facilities must continue to be improved. Furthermore, it is hoped that the coordination network with various related elements will be continuously built in order to make the implementation more effective.
Mahfud MD also requested that law enforcement must be improved further, ideally by involving law enforcement agencies, so that the perpetrators face severe penalties, with the hope that this will serve as a deterrent.
It was also stated that obstacles, particularly limited facilities and supporting facilities, were still encountered in field technical operations. As a result, Mahfud continues to propose a budget in order to optimize the handling of Karhutla.
Dwikorita Karnawati, The Head of the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), stated that the Indonesia's climate forecast for 2023 has the potential to be a lamina climate with high rainfall. In January, the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) index was 0.81, indicating a state of the phenomenon of cooling sea surface temperatures, also known as a weak La Nina.
BMKG forecasts Enso neutral from JFM 2023 to JJA 2023. Most other climate service centers predicts Enso neutral conditions will emerge in the 2023 MMA period as well.
Furthermore, Dwikorita stated the Riau Island Province, in particular, experienced a dry climate/low rainfall. In contrast, the risk of forest and land fires is extremely high in May, June, and July. As a result, preventive measures are required to avoid the Karhutla disaster. (Pro_kopim/irles)
