The problem of fish bombing which is prevalent in the Natuna Regency area, particularly in Midai and Suak Midai Districts, became the main topic of discussion in the Virtual Meeting between the Regent of Natuna, Wan Siswandi and the Heads of Midai and Suak Midai Sub-Districts, which took place in the 2nd Floor Meeting Room of the Natuna Regent's Office, Ranai, Thursday morning (26/01)
The Regent of Natuna was accompanied by several regional officials, including the Regional Secretary, the Head of Bakesbangpolda, as well as members of the Natuna Regency Regional Leadership Coordination Forum.
In his speech, Wan Siswandi hoped that the Uspika would work together to prevent fish bombing in the Midai Sea and its environs. If there are any indications, he would direct the sub-district head to immediately notify the authorities, including the Chief of Police Sector, The Military District Commander, and The Navy Post Commander.
Furthermore, Wan Siswandi also hoped that the sub-district heads will continue to inform the public about the dangers of bombing fish, which will have a negative impact, particularly causing damage to coral reefs as fish habitat. He also urged the public not to allow the law fall into their hands. This will only worsen social conditions and unwanted legal violations.
The Public Prosecution Service of Natuna, Imam SM Sidabutar, reported the same matter. The sub-district heads can coordinate with local law enforcement agencies regarding the handling of fisheries bombings.
Aside from that, Imam suggested the enforcement should be given a clear legal framework, and such efforts should be taken by the Natuna Regent Regulations.
Nanang Budi Santosa, Natuna Police Chief, conveyed that the facilities and resources to assist law enforcement in these violations are limited. However, he hoped that the community will be able to establish good communication with local sector police.
On the same occasion, Edra Zurhendridi, Head of the Midai district, reported that when the public inform the district about an attempt to fishery bombing, his party immediately reported to the authorities followed by arresting the perpetrators.(Pro_kopim/irles)
