The severe weather with the intensity of heavy rain over the past few days in Serasan and East Serasan Sub-Districts caused a landslide which struck Pangkalan Village (from Astaka intersection towards Koramil) on Monday (06/03) afternoon.
This was followed by floods in Air Nusa village and several locations in East Serasan Sub-District. Due to the high intensity of rain, a landslide occurred in Air Nusa village in East Serasan Sub-District on Monday (06/03) morning.
This condition was exacerbated by the fact that the communication was totally blocked due to power outage, as local cellular towers are being powered by electricity.
The community and local officials are currently clearing the location and evacuating the victims, but the residents were unable of doing much considering the landslide material buried the location was enormous.
The Regent of Natuna, Wan Siswandi, confirmed at his residence stated that about 50 people had been missing in the landslide, of which 10 people had been found deceased and evacuated by the locals, assisted by members of Koramil 06/Serasan and the local police.
A group of local government and related agencies were scheduled to travel to Serasan Island to observe the latest conditions, using MV. Indra Perkasa and Sasikirana Basarnas. (Pro_kopim/dF)
