Responding to the Replacement of NAM Air, Natuna Regent: We’re Working on the Best Solution

NAM Air, which currently serves the Natuna–Batam–Jakarta and Jakarta–Batam–Natuna flight routes, is scheduled to cease operations as of May 10, 2025. This has triggered various reactions and concerns among the public, particularly regarding which airline will replace NAM Air in serving Natuna.

When met in her office on Wednesday morning (May 7), the Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, stated that as of now, there has been no official statement from any airline confirming plans to begin operations to Natuna in the near future.

She emphasized that the public needs to understand that securing airline services for routes to Natuna is a complex process involving multiple stakeholders, and that several procedures must be followed.

Cen Sui Lan stressed that the regional government has already sent formal letters to the Ministry of Transportation and NAM Air regarding the issue. However, up to this point, the local government is still awaiting a response or follow-up to the request.

She asked for the public’s patience, assuring that the local government is doing its utmost to find the best possible solution. She also noted that ongoing communication is being maintained with both local and national authorities to ensure the issue receives proper attention.

The local government is also planning to hold meetings with relevant parties to ensure that the flow of people and goods to and from Natuna remains uninterrupted. In addition to advocating for a replacement airline, the government is also working to ensure that air transport services remain affordable for the public.

She concluded by highlighting that transportation accessibility must go hand-in-hand with development, as the progress of a region is highly influenced by how easily it can be reached.
Furthermore, she noted that limited transportation access negatively affects regional development, reducing investor interest and decreasing tourist visits.
