Regent of Natuna Leads Academic Discussion on Natuna Sea Defense Strategy with Seskoal Representatives

As part of efforts to strengthen maritime defense in Indonesia’s border region, Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, led a strategic meeting with representatives from the Indonesian Navy Headquarters (Mabes AL) and lecturers from the Naval Command and Staff College (Seskoal). The meeting was held virtually from the Natuna Regent’s Office Meeting Room, Jalan Batu Sisir Bukit Arai, Ranai, on Monday morning (July 7).

The meeting focused on analyzing the implementation of maritime defense strategies in Natuna waters in response to various threats, particularly sovereignty violations in Indonesia’s outermost sea areas.

This agenda was part of an academic research initiative conducted by Seskoal lecturers, aimed at developing maritime defense strategies based on regional potential and the current threat landscape in border areas.

In her remarks, Cen Sui Lan emphasized the importance of synergy between local governments and the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) in securing Natuna’s maritime territory, especially given the region’s geographical vulnerability to illegal activities such as illegal fishing, unauthorized sailing, and potential territorial disputes.

In line with the research conducted by the Seskoal academic team led by Colonel Marine Achmad Sochfan, S.A.P, M.Han, Cen Sui Lan welcomed the study and analysis as a tangible contribution from the academic world to bolster national resilience, particularly in border maritime regions like Natuna.

Meanwhile, Seskoal representative M.B. Panjaitan stated that the Indonesian Navy continues to enhance patrol and surveillance operations in the Natuna Sea and supports the development of defense strategies involving local government and community participation.

The discussion included a number of strategic approaches, such as the use of maritime technology, capacity building for maritime security personnel, and collaboration with neighboring countries in securing border areas.

It is hoped that the outcomes of this discussion will not only serve as academic input but can also be implemented in real policies to strengthen the defense and security of the Natuna Sea region. (Pro_kopim/Patli)
