Regent of Natuna Distributes Social Assistance for the Elderly and Productive Economic Enterprises

Ranai, September 30, 2025 — Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, attended the symbolic distribution of the Social Assistance Program for the Elderly (Lansia) and the Productive Economic Enterprises (UEP) Assistance at Sri Serindit Building, Ranai.

The event was also attended by Vice Regent of Natuna, the Chairperson and several members of the Natuna Regency DPRD, the Regional Secretary, Assistants and Heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations, the Head of BPJS Employment of Riau Islands Province, the Head of BPJS Employment of Natuna Regency, the Chairperson of the Natuna Malay Customary Institution (LAM), subdistrict heads and village heads of Bunguran Timur District, as well as aid recipients.

In her remarks, Regent Cen Sui Lan emphasized that the program is the realization of Article 34 paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution, which mandates the government to take responsibility for vulnerable groups, including the poor and the elderly, as well as to promote the economic empowerment of underprivileged communities.

Through this assistance, the Regent expressed hope that it would be perceived as a form of concern and social care from the regional government in helping to meet daily needs. She also acknowledged that the value of the assistance may still be limited, given the constraints of regional financial capacity.

In addition, Productive Economic Enterprise Assistance was also distributed as part of the regional government’s commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs, motivating them to further develop their businesses.

The Regent encouraged all productive business actors in the region to continue innovating, become the driving force of the local economy, and grow into independent and competitive entrepreneurs.

On the same occasion, Head of the Social Affairs Office of Natuna Regency, Puryanti, reported that the purpose of this initiative is to ensure the welfare and survival of the elderly through social assistance. At the same time, the program is also expected to stimulate productive economic growth, particularly among vulnerable communities, by creating independent livelihood opportunities as part of poverty alleviation efforts.

Puryanti further reported that the recipients of the Elderly Social Assistance total 293 individuals, each receiving IDR 700,000. Meanwhile, 67 entrepreneurs were granted Productive Economic Enterprise Assistance, each amounting to IDR 2,250,000.

The event concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between BPJS Employment and the Government of Natuna Regency.(Prokopim/D&S)
