On Wednesday morning (17/11), the Regent of Natuna attended a grand harvest event in Padang Angus, Binjai Village, South Bunguran District. The Regent’s presence reflected the local government’s strong commitment and tangible support for the agricultural sector and local food security.
The harvest involved local farmers, farmer groups, as well as representatives from the village and sub-district governments. The event was lively and filled with enthusiasm, showcasing the farmers’ hard work in managing agricultural land in a sustainable manner.

On this occasion, Regent Cen Sui Lan personally went down to the fields to harvest several leading commodities. The crops harvested included chili peppers, citra guava, and watermelons, all of which were seen to be growing well and of high quality.
The Regent expressed her appreciation for the farmers’ dedication and resilience in maintaining agricultural productivity despite various challenges. According to her, the successful harvest demonstrates that local farmers have great potential to meet the region’s food needs.
Furthermore, Cen Sui Lan emphasized the importance of positioning local farmers as the primary producers of staple food ingredients to support the Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG) in Natuna Regency. She stressed that the MBG program should deliver direct economic benefits to the community, especially to farmers.

She also noted that utilizing locally produced agricultural products for the MBG program would ensure better quality and freshness of food for the public, while at the same time reducing dependence on supplies from outside the region.
The Natuna Regency Government, the Regent added, will continue to encourage capacity building for farmers through ongoing assistance, improved market access, and support for agricultural facilities and infrastructure. It is hoped that strong synergy between farmers and the government will strengthen food security and improve the overall welfare of the Natuna community. (Prokopim/Patli)
