Inaugurating the Idrus M. Thahar Library Building in Natuna, Cen Sui Lan Hopes It Becomes a Hub for Community Literacy Activities

Located at the Regional Library of Natuna Regency on Kolonel Pnb. Suminar Sihotang Street, Ranai, East Bunguran District, Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, attended and officially inaugurated the Idrus M. Thahar Regional Library Service Building on Wednesday morning (16/04).

In her remarks, Cen Sui Lan stated that in light of the rapid advancement of information technology that increasingly dominates global demands, Community Reading Parks (TBM) and libraries must continue to innovate. They need to present themselves in a more educational and appealing manner to attract visitors while consistently improving their services as up-to-date information centers.

Through the inauguration of the Idrus M. Thahar Library and its various new service facilities, Cen Sui Lan expressed her hope that the library would benefit the public by enriching visitors’ knowledge and insight, thus contributing to the development of literacy within the community.

Head of the Regional Library and Archives Office of Natuna Regency, Erson Gempar Afriandi, reported that since its establishment in 2008, the Regional Library Building had never undergone any renovations.

In 2023, the office submitted a proposal for Special Physical Allocation Funds to the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia for the renovation and expansion of the library service building. The proposal was approved, and construction began in 2024 with a project value of IDR 4.5 billion.

Erson also mentioned that his office is currently striving to secure additional funding for the construction of landscaping and outdoor facilities in the library’s yard.

The proposed facilities include perimeter fencing, an archive depot, sports facilities, an outdoor meeting hall, an artificial lake, and other supporting amenities.

The event was attended by various officials, including the Vice Regent of Natuna, members of Forkopimda, the Chairperson and several members of Commission I of the Natuna Regency DPRD, the Regional Secretary, OPD leaders, sub-district heads, village heads, school principals, and local community leaders.
