Commemorating Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, Natuna Regent and Commander of Joint Defense Area Command I Raise the Red-and-White Flag in Natuna Sea

In celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia in 2025, the Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, accompanied by Vice Regent Jarmin and Commander of the Joint Defense Area Command I (Pangkogabwilhan I), Lieutenant General TNI Kunto Arief Wibowo, took part in a ceremonial raising of the national Red-and-White flag over the waters off Piwang Beach, Ranai, on Sunday morning (17/8).

The solemn flag-raising ceremony at sea was set against the deep blue backdrop of the Natuna Ocean — a powerful symbol of Indonesia’s front-line sovereignty.

The event was witnessed by members of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), heads of regional government organizations, military and police personnel, civil servants, students, and members of the public.

All participants and attendees were visibly moved, united in a moment of heartfelt patriotism as they sang the national anthem Indonesia Raya with reverence and pride.

On the occasion, Regent Cen Sui Lan emphasized that the flag-raising at sea was not merely ceremonial, but a firm statement of commitment to unity and the defense of sovereignty in Indonesia’s border regions.

She further reminded the public that Natuna stands as the frontline guardian of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Marking the 80th Independence Day, she called upon all Natuna citizens to strengthen the spirit of unity and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.

Echoing this sentiment, Pangkogabwilhan I Lieutenant General TNI Kunto Arief Wibowo stressed in his address that synergy between local government, the public, and defense forces is crucial in maintaining security and stability in the border region — especially as Natuna holds strategic importance in the geopolitical landscape.
