BP2K3A Public Discussion, Cen Sui Lan: Special Province Status for Natuna-Anambas is an Effort to Accelerate Border Area Development

The Agency for the Acceleration of the Establishment of the Special Province of Natuna-Anambas Archipelago (BP2K3A) held a public discussion attended by various stakeholders and community figures on Wednesday morning (April 23), at Sri Serindit Hall, Ranai, East Bunguran District.

Several officials were present at the event, including the Chair of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and their delegation, the Governor of Riau Islands Province accompanied by heads of provincial government departments, representatives from the Natuna Regency Government, representatives from BP2K3A from the Anambas Islands Regency, as well as local leaders, youth representatives, and invitees from various sectors.

In his remarks, the Governor of Riau Islands Province, Ansar Ahmad, stated that the effort to establish the Natuna-Anambas Province is not merely an administrative issue but must be viewed strategically from multiple perspectives.

According to Ansar, this struggle has gone through a long process, supported by academic studies and recommendations from various parties, and most importantly, it reflects a strong aspiration from the local community.

He emphasized that the aim of this initiative is not political power or administrative positions, but rather the improvement of public services, more advanced regional development, and equitable welfare for the people.

Ansar also strongly urged the central government, the DPR RI, the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), and all relevant stakeholders to consider the establishment of the Natuna-Anambas Province as a strategic national priority.

On the same occasion, Bupati Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, added that Natuna and Anambas are two regencies located in the northernmost part of Indonesia, directly bordering the North Natuna Sea. Although geographically strategic, the region is also vulnerable to conflict.

With more than 90% of the area consisting of ocean, the region is not only limited in landmass but is also made up of scattered islands separated by straits and vast seas.

According to Cen Sui Lan, despite the abundance of natural resources in this border area, the authority to manage these resources is currently very limited.

Therefore, the push for a special provincial status is aimed at granting broader authority to Natuna and Anambas so they can better utilize their regional potential to accelerate development in the area. (Pro_kopim/D&S)
