Audience with BWS Sumatera IV: Regent of Natuna Encourages Acceleration of Sebayar Reservoir Operation

The Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, visited the Regional River Basin Office (Balai Wilayah Sungai/BWS) Sumatera IV Batam, located on Jalan R.E. Martadinata No. 1, Sei Harapan, Sekupang, Batam, to attend an audience with the head and several officials of the institution.

During the meeting, both parties discussed measures to accelerate the operation of the Sebayar Reservoir, located in Bunguran Timur District, which is one of the strategic infrastructure projects in the Natuna region.

Cen Sui Lan explained that the Sebayar Reservoir is a vital infrastructure needed by the community as a raw water storage facility supporting the agricultural sector, while also enhancing water and food security in Natuna. She expressed her hope that the reservoir could soon be operational so that its benefits could be directly felt by the community.

Furthermore, Cen Sui Lan conveyed that the regional government is fully committed to supporting the acceleration of the project. In addition to its technical function, the Sebayar Reservoir is also designed to contribute to environmental conservation efforts. On the other hand, the reservoir is expected to boost agricultural productivity, thereby contributing to the region’s overall food resilience.

In its implementation, Cen Sui Lan emphasized the importance of maintaining time efficiency and work quality. She hoped that the initial operation of the reservoir could begin as soon as possible, even while the physical development process continues in stages.

Meanwhile, the Head of BWS Sumatera IV Batam, Syauqiyatul Afnani Rangkuti, expressed her readiness to commence the operational phase. She reported that the administrative and technical preparations are nearly complete, while the appointment of the physical construction contractor is in its final stage and expected to begin by mid-October 2025.

Both parties acknowledged that intensive coordination and communication would be key to ensuring the timely and successful implementation of the project.
