Held in the rice field area of Batubi Jaya Village, Bunguran Batubi District, the Regent of Natuna, Cen Sui Lan, accompanied by the Head of the Agriculture and Food Security Office of Natuna Regency, attended the Grand Rice Harvest event on Friday afternoon (May 9).
In front of the village head and local residents/farmers, Cen Sui Lan expressed her appreciation for the hard work of the local farmers who have successfully cultivated and harvested from the rice fields.
According to Cen Sui Lan, this aligns with the regional government’s efforts to pursue rice self-sufficiency in accordance with the mandate of the national food security program.
She emphasized that the agricultural sector must continue to be developed. Farmers in Natuna, a border region, must be able to make agriculture a sustainable livelihood that drives independence, economic growth, and public welfare.
To meet the region’s agricultural needs through self-sufficiency, Cen Sui Lan stated that the local government will continue to strengthen the agricultural sector by providing supporting agricultural facilities. In the future, not only rice but also other essential food commodities such as chilies and vegetables must be produced locally.
Cen Sui Lan further explained that the development of the agrarian sector would involve various cross-sectoral stakeholders. Therefore, she urged technical departments to build coordination and collaboration with all relevant parties.
She noted that the total harvest from January to the present reached around 5 tons, which she deemed an extraordinary achievement. However, she also encouraged that future harvest yields be increased with the aid of agricultural tools and sufficient fertilizer supplies.
Moreover, Cen Sui Lan stated that the harvests would be distributed to meet the food supply needs of the national Free Nutritious Meal Program.
This marketing scheme is intended to motivate local farmers to remain enthusiastic in cultivating their land, as the harvests now have a more assured distribution channel. (Pro_kopim/Patli)
