Accompanying the Governor of Riau Islands Province During a Visit to Review the Selat Lampa Development Plan, Regent of Natuna Expresses Hope for Immediate Realization to Boost Regional Economy

Natuna, Riau Islands – Governor of the Riau Islands Province, Ansar Ahmad, conducted an official visit to Natuna Regency on Sunday, August 10, with one of the key agendas being a site inspection of Selat Lampa Port, located in Pulau Tiga District.

The visit aimed to assess the readiness for the port’s future development, envisioned as a strategic infrastructure hub to strengthen connectivity and drive economic growth in Indonesia’s border region.

Currently, Selat Lampa Port serves as the main maritime activity center in Natuna, accommodating passenger vessels, pioneering ships, and cargo transportation. With well-planned development, the port is expected to increase service capacity, streamline goods distribution, and reinforce the fisheries and trade sectors.

During the visit, Governor Ansar Ahmad, accompanied by Regent of Natuna Cen Sui Lan, relevant provincial officials, and heads of local government agencies, reviewed the current condition of the dock, cargo handling facilities, and the areas earmarked for expansion. The development plan includes upgrading dock infrastructure, adding supporting facilities, and improving road access to the port.

On this occasion, Governor Ansar reaffirmed the commitment of the Riau Islands Provincial Government to fully support the acceleration of the port’s development, including coordinating with the central government to ensure that the project proceeds without delay.

The visit also marked a significant effort to enhance synergy between provincial and regency governments in positioning Natuna as a strategic gateway along national and international shipping lanes. With the planned improvements to Selat Lampa Port, the facility is expected to become a key logistics distribution node and a vital economic growth center in the border area.

Echoing this sentiment, Regent of Natuna Cen Sui Lan emphasized that Selat Lampa Port has long played a crucial role for the region—not only as a logistical gateway but also as a major economic driver.

She added that the port’s development would bring tangible benefits in terms of distribution efficiency, investment opportunities, and improved community welfare.

Regent Cen expressed hope that the development program for Selat Lampa Port would be implemented promptly, supporting Natuna’s strategic role as a border region with exceptional maritime potential. (Prokopim/Patli)
