Accompanied by several leaders of related Regional Apparatus Organisations, the Regional Secretary of Natuna Regency, Boy Wijanarko Varianto attended a virtual meeting with National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Thursday (2/3) afternoon, located in the Zoom Meeting Room of the Natuna Regent's Office, Batu Sisir St. Bukit Arai, Ranai.
Several OPD leaders who appeared to attend the meeting were Assistant II and a number of related OPD leaders, including the Head of the Tourism Office, Head of the Food Security and Agriculture Office, Head of the Fisheries Office and BP3D Representative.
BRIN is a Non-Ministerial Government Institution that is under and responsible to the President of the Republic of Indonesia through the Minister who is in charge of government affairs in research and technology.
This institution was first established by President Joko Widodo through Presidential Regulation Number 74 of 2019 attached to the Ministry of Research and Technology (Kemenristek) so the Minister of Research and Technology also acts as the Head of BRIN.
In his speech, Boy Wijanarko Varianto expressed his gratitude for the virtual meeting, and explained the region's current condition, where the fishery and oil and gas sectors are the main potential priorities to strengthen the regional economy.
He also explained that in the last few years the regional economy has experienced a downturn, due to the refocusing of Covid-19 handling which has far-reaching impacts and has caused a significant decline of the economy.
Boy hoped that through intense communication, mutual cooperation would be developed to support the economic improvement and human resource development programmes in the region.
On the same occasion, Head of BRIN Centre, Zamroni warmly welcomed the numerous efforts of the Natuna Government, especially regarding the human resource development in research.
Zamroni explained that in terms of cooperation requests, the institution he leads can only co-operate at the bilateral level (two countries), while the research issued by BRIN is highly competitive.
Zamroni added that cooperation between BRIN and local governments can be built through research collaboration, human resources and research co-operation. (Pro_kopim/irles)
