Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan, accompanied by Natuna Regional Secretary Boy Wijanarko Varianto, attended the 2026 Field Verification of Gender Mainstreaming (PUG). The meeting was held in the second-floor meeting room of the Natuna Regent’s Office on Jalan Batu Sisir, Bukit Arai, on Tuesday afternoon (3 November).
The event was attended by the Deputy Assistant for Gender Mainstreaming in Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Development and Regional Affairs for Regional Governments in Region I, representatives of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, the Field Verification Team Leader, heads and representatives of regional government agencies, as well as members of the Natuna and Anambas Gender Mainstreaming Working Groups.
In her remarks, Cen Sui Lan explained that gender mainstreaming is not simply about completing administrative documents. It is a development strategy to ensure that women and men have equal access to opportunities, participation in decision-making, control over resources, and benefits from development.
She said this effort must continue because good development should provide equal opportunities for all people to grow and improve their lives without discrimination.
Cen Sui Lan also stressed that gender mainstreaming is a shared responsibility, not the responsibility of only one government agency. Therefore, gender equality must be included in every stage of development, from planning and budgeting to implementation, monitoring, supervision, evaluation, and reporting. This will help ensure that local government policies respond to the challenges of putting gender equality into practice in the community.
She added that during 2024 and 2025, the local government had continued to strengthen its commitment and institutions for gender mainstreaming. Efforts also included improving staff capacity, providing updated data, and including a gender perspective in regional planning and budgeting documents.
According to Cen Sui Lan, the success of gender mainstreaming should not be measured only by the number of regulations, documents, or activities. It should also be seen through real changes in society, such as more opportunities for women to take part in development, better access to public services, improved quality of life for both women and men, and reduced gender gaps in different sectors.
As an island region, Natuna faces its own challenges, including its geographical conditions and access to public services. For this reason, development policies, public services, and programmes must reach all communities fairly and continue to meet their needs.
At the same event, Region I Gender Mainstreaming Assistant Eni Widianto joined the meeting online. On behalf of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, she expressed her thanks and appreciation to the Natuna and Anambas Regency Governments for their commitment and participation in sharing information about their gender mainstreaming programmes and achievements.
Eni explained that the information and data provided were important for understanding the progress made, the challenges faced, and the improvements still needed to strengthen gender mainstreaming in each region.
She hoped that the evaluation results would help the regency governments prepare effective and sustainable plans through cooperation with different parties, so that development could provide equal opportunities and benefits for women and men.
Eni also explained that the field verification aimed to review, confirm, and check the information on gender mainstreaming submitted through the PUG evaluation application. The information had already passed the administrative verification stage.
Through this process, the evaluation team can obtain more complete and objective information about local policies, institutions, programme implementation, and the achievements of gender mainstreaming in the region. (Pro_kopimnatuna/Endang)
