Natuna Regent Calls for Better Library Services Through National Standards

Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan officially opened the 2026 Library Accreditation Socialization and Advocacy and Information Literacy Technical Training for libraries across Natuna Regency. The event was held at the Regional Library and Archives Office in Ranai on Tuesday afternoon, August 18.

In her remarks, Cen Sui Lan said Natuna currently has 192 libraries across the regency, including one regional library, eight subdistrict libraries, 37 village libraries, 133 school libraries, and 13 special libraries. However, only 14 of them have so far been accredited by the National Library of Indonesia.

She welcomed the program as an important step toward improving library services across Natuna. She described libraries as an essential part of education, a place for sharing knowledge, and an important pillar in improving literacy and supporting a more educated society. “Good service cannot be based on guesswork. It needs to follow clear standards,” she said. She added that library accreditation provides an official way to assess and ensure that library management and public services meet the National Library Standards.

Cen Sui Lan expressed hope that the program would encourage continued improvements in school, village, subdistrict, and regional libraries across Natuna. The event was attended by the Deputy Regent, members of the Natuna DPRD, including Commission I, National Library of Indonesia representative and speaker Muhammad Syarif Bando, relevant government officials, school principals, village heads, and school and village library managers.
