Meeting with Natuna Fishermen Association, Cen Sui Lan Pushes for Better Control of Subsidized Fuel Distribution

Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan led a meeting with Pertamina, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), subdistrict heads, related regional agencies, and representatives of the Natuna Fishermen Association from several districts. The meeting took place at the Natuna Regent’s Office meeting room on Jalan Batu Sisir, Bukit Arai, Bunguran Timur District, Thursday morning (April 30).

The discussion was held in response to growing reports and complaints regarding the distribution of subsidized fuel for fishermen across Natuna Regency.

During the meeting, Cen Sui Lan stressed that recommendation letters for obtaining subsidized fuel must be issued accurately and responsibly. She emphasized that the verification process for fishermen’s data should be carried out strictly, transparently, and based on actual needs in the field, so the subsidies are not misused by unauthorized parties.

She also highlighted the impact of rising global oil prices on fishermen’s operational costs. According to her, this issue needs serious attention because if left unaddressed, it could reduce fishing activity and eventually affect fishermen’s livelihoods as well as fish supply availability.

Natuna Fishermen Association Chairman Hendri also shared several concerns during the meeting, including limited access to subsidized fuel and alleged irregularities in the distribution process.

He hoped the regional government could provide concrete solutions so fishermen’s fuel needs can be fulfilled fairly and evenly.

Responding to the concerns, Cen Sui Lan underlined the importance of stronger oversight in the distribution of subsidized fuel. She called on related institutions and law enforcement authorities to actively monitor conditions in the field to prevent misuse and irregularities.

Natuna District Attorney Erwin Indrapraja, who also attended the meeting, expressed his office’s readiness to provide legal assistance and oversight.

He stated that if any indication of abuse or misappropriation in subsidized fuel distribution is found, legal action will be taken in accordance with existing regulations. He added that legal assistance is expected to serve both as a preventive measure and part of law enforcement efforts.

Closing the meeting, Cen Sui Lan reaffirmed that the main goal of improving the subsidized fuel distribution system is to support the welfare of fishermen.

She expressed hope that through strong cooperation between the government, law enforcement, and related stakeholders, Natuna’s fishermen can continue working safely and productively despite ongoing economic challenges. (Pro_kopim /S)
