The Provincial Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an and Hadith (MTQH) of the Riau Islands is scheduled to take place in June 2026 in Tanjung Pinang. This annual event serves as a key benchmark for all regencies and municipalities across the Riau Islands Province.
In preparation, the Natuna Regency Government, through its Public Welfare Section (Kesra), in coordination with the Lembaga Pengembangan Tilawatil Qur’an (LPTQ) Natuna and the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Natuna Regency, has initiated a series of structured preparatory steps. Coordination also involves sub-district LPTQ units and Heads of Religious Affairs Offices (KUA) throughout Natuna to ensure systematic and measurable coaching processes.
Unlike previous years, the MTQH at the regency level will not be held as a ceremonial event. This policy reflects a strategic shift to maximize training effectiveness and participant development. Rather than focusing on formal ceremonies, the priority this year is to enhance the quality and readiness of Natuna’s kafilah to achieve stronger results at the provincial level.
As a strategic measure, preparations are centered on the implementation of a regency-level Training Center (TC). Participants include kafilah members who have previously represented Natuna at the provincial MTQH, complemented by top-scoring candidates selected through video submissions and online assessments conducted via Zoom from across Natuna’s sub-districts. In addition, Natuna natives currently pursuing education outside the region are also given the opportunity to participate in the selection process.
This year’s primary focus is to ensure that all participants are fully prepared to compete in the 2026 Provincial MTQH. Accordingly, the training camp is planned to run for a minimum of one month or longer, featuring intensive coaching by experienced trainers and mentors to further strengthen participants’ recitation quality, memorization, and comprehension.
Decisions regarding the selection system and training center implementation were reached through joint deliberations involving LPTQ Natuna, the Kesra Section, and the Natuna Regency Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. A coordination meeting was held at the office of the Assistant for Government and Public Welfare at the Natuna Regional Secretariat, underscoring a shared commitment to improving regional performance.
With the suspension of the regency-level ceremonial event, funds previously allocated for such activities have been fully redirected toward coaching and intensive training programs. This approach is expected to significantly enhance the preparedness of Natuna’s kafilah, enabling them to perform more competitively and achieve optimal results at the 2026 Riau Islands Provincial MTQH in Tanjung Pinang.
