In commemoration of the 26th Anniversary of Natuna Regency in 2025, the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) of Natuna Regency convened a Plenary Session at the DPRD Office, Jalan Yoes Soedarso, Ranai, on Friday afternoon (October 10).
The session, presided over by Chairman of DPRD Natuna, Rusdi, was attended by Vice Chairpersons and Members of DPRD Natuna and their spouses, figures involved in the administrative formation of Natuna, the Vice Regent, the Regional Secretary, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), Heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), Heads of vertical agencies, representatives of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), organizational leaders, and community figures.
In his opening remarks, Chairman Rusdi conveyed his appreciation to all parties contributing to the region’s development, expressing gratitude and joy for the 26th Anniversary as a symbol of unity and collective spirit in building Natuna. He also recalled that Natuna Regency was officially established through Law No. 53 of 1999, enacted on October 12, 1999.
Rusdi noted that over the years, Natuna has undergone significant transformation. At present, the regency consists of 17 districts (kecamatan). He expressed his hope that all stakeholders will continue to strengthen public services and governance through the optimization of regional potential in the areas of administration, development, and service delivery.
Following this, Regent Cen Sui Lan, in her address, extended appreciation and gratitude to the people of Natuna, all development stakeholders, as well as the former Regents and Vice Regents for their invaluable contributions that have shaped Natuna’s progress to its current state.
Cen Sui Lan outlined that over the past two decades, Natuna has demonstrated notable progress, as reflected in its Human Development Index (HDI), which has reached 78.60 (high category)—placing Natuna third in Riau Islands Province.
In terms of poverty reduction, the regency recorded a decline to 5.25% in 2023, ranking second lowest in the province after Batam City. Similarly, the Open Unemployment Rate has decreased compared to the previous year, remaining below both the provincial and national averages. Moreover, economic growth in the second quarter of 2025 reached 28.70% (including oil and gas), driven primarily by the mining and quarrying sector (67.23%), while the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector grew by 13.51%, alongside other supporting sectors.
During her address, Cen Sui Lan also highlighted several key policies and programs implemented during her first eight months in office, including support for national priority programs such as:
The establishment of Community Schools (Sekolah Rakyat),
The Free Nutritious Meal Program,
The creation of 77 Village/Urban Red-and-White Cooperatives,
The Three Million Housing Program addressing substandard housing, and
The Affordable Food Movement aimed at controlling inflation.
She also reported on the realization of poverty alleviation programs, including:
Extreme Poverty Assistance for 665 beneficiaries,
Social Assistance for the Elderly for 293 recipients funded through the regional budget (APBD), and
The distribution of 17 tons of rice under the Government Food Reserve (CPPD) program for 1,700 recipients.
To support MSME and local entrepreneurship, the regional government has launched:
Productive Economic Assistance for 67 entrepreneurs,
A Micro Business Capital Loan Program of up to IDR 20 million, interest-free, with the interest fully subsidized by the local government, and
The Optimization of the Integrated Business Service Center (PLUT) to strengthen MSME development.
Additionally, social security coverage has been expanded to include 449 workers.
In the agriculture and fisheries sectors, the regional government has also distributed 36 tons of NPK fertilizer and 44 tons of Super Dolomite to support farmers and fishers, further promoting community welfare and sustainable livelihoods. (Prokopim/D&S)
