The Regional Secretary of Natuna Officially Opens the 2024 Weather School for Fishermen (SLCN).

Located at the Natuna Meteorological Station Hall, Agus Salim Puak St, Ranai City. The Secretary of Natuna, Boy Wijanarko Varianto officially opened the 2024 Fishermen’s Weather Field School (SLCN) event in the Natuna Regency area, Monday (23/12) Morning.

The SLCN 2024 activity initiated by BMKG Natuna aims to actualise the improvement of fishermen’s knowledge about weather to support and efforts to maintain the safety of fishermen in working in the Natuna sea area.

Boy Wijanarko expressed his appreciation to BMKG Natuna as the organiser of this activity. This was considered important considering that the majority of Natuna citizens are fishermen, and this activity will certainly be very useful in carrying out their activities.

To all participants, Boy hoped that they could take this activity seriously and maximise their knowledge of weather information to jointly maintain safety at sea.

He also hoped this synergy could be continued in the long term orientated towards efforts to maintain the safety of fishermen. So that in the future fishermen are more prepared and skilled in understanding the weather, responding wisely to changes in weather conditions by prioritising safety and increasing fishermen’s productivity.

The Head of BMKG Region 1 Medan, Hendro Nugroho, also stated that BMKG continues to be committed to providing useful information to the public regarding weather information.

Hendro also emphasised that the Natuna has a unique extreme weather phenomenon, so this poses a weather threat if it is not well understood. Meanwhile, this activity is part of BMKG’s efforts to educate the public in understanding the weather conditions in the Natuna sea.

The opening ceremony was marked by the beating of a gong by the Secretary of Natuna accompanied by the head of BMKG Station 1 Medan Region and the Head of BMKG Natuna, witnessed by the Chairman of the Natuna Regency DPRD. Furthermore, the participants were symbolically pinned.

The activity, which was held from 23 to 24 December 2024, was attended by 100 participants who were representatives of fishermen from several sub-districts, representatives of vertical agencies, TNI / Polri and media crews.

Present at the event were the Head of BMKG Station Hang Nadim Airport Batam, Head of BMKG Natuna, Forkopimda, Chairman of DPRD, OPD leaders, Chairman of PWI and heads of BMKG Stations throughout Indonesia who followed the Zoom meeting online. (Pro_kopim/Patli)
